Yeast On My Scalp

YEAST INFECTION ON MY SCALP?

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES?

Did you know that you can get a yeast infection on your scalp. I know it sounds crazy, right? When we think of a yeast infection, we think about a female and her private area and the symptoms that come with it. But a yeast infection is not limited to our private areas.

Yeast infections are also known as Candida Albicans, which is the most common type of fungal infection. A fungal infection can present anywhere on the body even on the scalp because Candida can be caused by stress, medications, using too harsh shampoos and products on the scalp, a weakened immune system and eating too much sugar in your diet. Candida can cause several health issues such as fatigue, joint pain and digestive issues to name a few.

The human body has many types of fungi that live within the body. At normal levels, fungus is not a problem in the body but when it begins to grow out of control, it can cause an infection. This infection is called candidiasis. Candida is one of the most common causes of fungal infections.

If the immune system is compromised or healthy bacteria levels are disrupted, Candida can overgrow. Another cause of a fungal infection on the scalp can be caused due to small cuts on your scalp that may provide entryway for the fungus to get below the surface. There are several signs and symptoms that may lead you to believe that you might have a scalp yeast infection:

· White, flaky scales or shedding

· White, pus-filled pimples

· Red or purple rash, cracks, or patches on the skin

· Areas that appear soft, moist, and white

The best way to determine if you are dealing with a scalp fungus is to see a Trichologist. A Trichologist can determine if the scalp malady is due to an overgrowth of yeast on the scalp or something else that may need to be treated by a medical professional. Having a scalp yeast infection can lead to hair loss if it is left untreated.

You may also accumulate a lot of flakes and dead skin which may cause excessive scratching or using products that can be drying to the skin. Using products that are drying to the skin may also cause damage to the hair follicle. Also, taking an antibiotic may cause an increase of yeast. With the help of a Trichologist, we can create a protocol that will help balance the body in a way to balance yeast within the body and protect the hair follicle and scalp.
